ABSTRACT
The purpose of this brief paper is to review historical and current metal foam technologies and follow it with a concise investigation of the possible impact on the naval scene of the World War II if they were used in the manufacturing of ships. To do so, first, an overview of metal foam concept, properties and materials will be given in the Introduction and Materials sections. Then processing methods are going to be introduced in two separate parts, first will focus on early ones, that were available during the discussed period, second will focus on the state-of-the-art methods available as this paper is written. Finally, examples of metal foams are going to be studied as materials for making a war naval vessel hull and compared with conventional materials.
